Located in the heart of Sabi Sand Game Reserve on the banks of the seasonal Sand River, Umkumbe Safari Lodge Riverside is managed and run by the owner, ensuring guests enjoy a personal, truly African safari experience.
Although the lodge is unfenced, it does have a tripwire to keep elephants and larger animals at bay, while allowing smaller game – warthog, antelope, and smaller mammals – to come and go as they please. This, naturally, provides entertaining game viewing from the comfort of the lodge.
Umkumbe Safari Lodge Riverside has 10 rooms and can accommodate up to 20 guests. Four of the suites overlook the Sand River, while three look onto a small plains area with a watering hole. The lodge is perfectly positioned to enjoy magnificent views of the Sand River and its wildlife activity, with guests regularly seeing elephants, hippos, buffalo and antelope grazing in the riverbed.
The lodge offers two safari game drives per day, as well as a guided morning bush walk for more energetic guests. All bush walks are led by qualified field guides, who point out the animal tracks while explaining other interesting facets of the bush that go unnoticed on safari game drives.
